Wyoming BHA Spring 2016 Update

The WY Chapter has been active this winter and spring. Janet Marschner and others hosted the first annual "Taste of the Wild" event in Cheyenne. There was tremendous response to the event, with around 100 people attending. Thank you, Janet, for planning this great event!

Along with seven other groups that make up the Wyoming Sportsmen's Alliance, the chapter co-hosted the third annual Sportsmen’s Reception in Cheyenne the opening week of the 2016 legislative session. Governor Matt Mead said some great things about the importance of wildlife and public lands in Wyoming. There was a great turnout from the state legislature and county commissioners. WY BHA chairs and board members had opportunity to raise concerns to our elected officials on a host of issues. Every single board member attended. The message is clear to the legislature that BHA is serious about wildlife, public lands and outdoor recreation.

The chapter was involved in the legislative session and worked hard to kill two public lands transfer bills. One bill died in a 52-7 vote. The second bill did not even get a vote.

Finally, the chapter is about to cross the goal line with a Wyoming Game and Fish regulation change to ban the use of aircraft and drones for the intent of scouting, aiding or hunting of game animals. The chapter gained the support of the Wyoming Sportsmen’s Alliance on this proposed change. We expect it to pass during the April GF Commission meeting.
